VALIDATED TRAINING
General Hypnotherapy Standards Council

This Training offered by abetterlife has been assessed and validated at Practitioner Level by the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council (UK).

Summary

The course in Advanced Techniques in Hypnosis is designed for you to explore and learn in-depth techniques and strategies for using formal Hypnosis within a therapeutic framework, for treating a wide range of primarily clinical problems. It builds on your Foundation Training in Hypnosis, and explores a range of physical and emotional problems and how to resolve them using a variety of hypnosis techniques. This is one of three stages of training required to be certified in Hypnosis at  Practitioner Level, the highest nationally recognised level of training as certified through the GHSC. The third component is the training is in Cognitive & Awake Hypnosis, which can be taken at any time. The aim is that you will be able to work effectively, efficiently, ethically, safely and legally with the public, when they are perhaps at their most ‘vulnerable’ or delicate. To this aim, you will also carry out two case studies, with clients, under supervision.

Course requirements and certification

This training requires that you have previously satisfactorily completed the Foundation level training in Hypnosis. This training takes your capability to the next level, with its emphasis being on how to analyse various presenting physical and emotional problems, and to develop strategies to resolve them based on a wide range of potential approaches using hypnosis. You will also explore ethical practice, and undertake supervision.

You will receive a Diploma on successful completion of this training. At this level you may carry out therapy with clients, subject to making supervision arrangements. Even so, I strongly recommend that you complete your studies to full Certified Practitioner status, and make arrangements for ongoing supervision as required by the GHSC.

Some footnotes: there are some training schools that offer a hypnosis certification as a brief add-on to an NLP Practitioner training. Usually this comprises no more than a few days training in hypnosis, with very little of the strategies of using hypnosis for therapy, and almost no study of various symptoms. Whilst such shor study may be acceptable as an introduction to hypnotic phenomena, our view is that it is not sufficient if you really want to learn the full power, application and scope for applying hypnosis for therapeutic benefit.

There is a view held by some traditional therapists that hypnosis should be seen as an adjunct to psychotherapy. We don’t take this view, not least because the fundamental concepts of change differ significantly from those adhered to in modern psychotherapy, and predate them by perhaps thousands of years.
